That matters because most markets reward the tool that gets used first, not the one that looks most elegant in comparison charts. Once AI becomes the place where discovery starts, every product behind that interface becomes more dependent on someone else’s terms. The battle moves from feature quality to starting-point control.

This is exactly the problem many smaller builders underestimate. They assume users will calmly compare tools and choose the best one. In practice, habits form around defaults. The tool that already sits in the workflow, inside the operating system, inside the browser, inside the document stack, or inside the assistant interface usually has a structural advantage. The better product does not always win. The harder-to-avoid product often does.

Those questions are boring until they become decisive. They are decisive now. The next winners will be the companies that treat governance as a product feature rather than a legal afterthought. They will understand that trust is not a soft layer sitting above the technology. It is part of the technology’s route to market.
